Joe started his senior football career at Brunswick Juventis, before moving to Footscray JUST, South Melbourne and then Heidelberg United, where he spent his last 3 seasons of his playing career in Australia.  During that time he made 1 appearance in the Australian National side.  He then headed off to Greece, looking for international experience and opportunities, playing for Apollon Kalamarias and then PAOK FC in the Greek Super League.

He retired in 2000, when he was offered the opportunity to coach at Poseidon Neas Michanionias.  From there, Joe went on to coach at Kallikratida Chalkidiki (over an 8yr period) with a brief and successful stint at OF lerapetra.  He returned to his old club Apollon Kalamarias to coach in 2011 before returning to Australia in 2012.

Joe coached the Moreland Zebras for a brief period of time before being appointed the Melbourne Heart (now Melbourne City) Assistant Coach in 2012, where he remains today.
